During a cold November, I set out to produce a series of images for Restore NYC, who seek to tackle an invisible epidemic: modern day slavery in the form of sex trafficking. Women abused in this manner are used as services, making them nonpersons in a world that turns a blind eye to their humanity.
The images feature actors commissioned implicitly to visualize the issue, the hope, and the work of restoring freedom, safety, and a future for survivors.
Restore NYC is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting foreign-born women of sex trafficking and rebuilding their identities by providing long-term, holistic aftercare services.
